3 Mistakes To Avoid When Selling Your House

2 Minutes Posted on:

If you are getting ready to sell a house you are probably wondering what you can do to make sure that you are ensuring that people will come and look at the house, as well as make a reasonable offer. There are some mistakes that sellers make that end up costing them a lot of time and money. Here are some mistakes to avoid.

1. Taking Your Own Pictures

Unless you are a professional photographer, you should not be taking your own pictures to put on the Internet. The Internet is where people buy property now. They look at the pictures online to determine if it is even worth their time. If the pictures don't do the house justice, if they have bad lighting, or come from the wrong angle then you could be in trouble. The process will be over before it even began.

When you hire a realtor, they will come and have a professional take pictures for you. In addition, they will make sure that all of the furniture is arranged in a way that makes the house look bigger and more appealing. This is a mistake that you must not make.

2. Keeping The House Looking Like You

Second, when you show your house it is very important that you don't make the house look like it is yours. This is not the time to show off your great decorating skills. Instead, it is a chance for you to let someone else envision themselves in your home. If it looks too much like your style, if there are too many family pictures, or if the house is too unique it is likely that people will come and say "that was a nice house, but I can't see myself living there."

Instead, change our décor to be more neutral. If you have to, paint a wall so that it is neutral colors instead of the yellow you initially did and so forth.

3. Showing Off Your Pets

If you have pets in the house, get rid of every sign that you have them. Feeding bowls, beds, or any type of animal hair should be removed from the house. Even pet lovers may not be thrilled about the fact that someone else's pets have made the house "dirty." This doesn't mean that the house is dirty, but it could easily be perceived as such if you have pets.

By avoiding these mistakes you can sell your house faster.
