4 Ways To Keep Your Sanity When Moving This Summer

Moving is a big undertaking that requires a lot of energy and can be stressful no matter how much you plan ahead, especially if you plan on doing it without the help of moving companies. If you find that you seem to lose your sanity and yourself when it is time to move, here are four tricks to help keep your sanity intact during your move this summer.

Dedicate A Weekend to Going Through Everything

One of the reasons why moving can make you lose your sanity is because you are not just packing up everything; you are deciding what you want to take with you as well. Moving is just as much about going through your things as it is about packing them up.

About a month before it is time to move, go through each room in your house and put items into ditch, donate, or sell piles. Set a timer for each room in your house so you don't get too caught up in the decision making process.

Then, throw out the ditch items, make a drive to your local charity for the donate items, and make listings to sell all the items you think you can make some money off of. This can be a small way to offset the cost of your move.

Pack Up Things You Don't Use First

Next, about three weeks out, spend a few evenings or days packing up all the items that you don't use that much. If you are racking your brain trying to figure out what you don't use that much, start with your storage closet or area in your home. Then move onto spaces like guest bedroom and bath.

After that, pack up all the kitchen appliances that you don't use on a regular basis, like you waffle maker and crockpot which have been sitting unused for months in your kitchen. Pack up as much as you can in advance.

Hire a Cleaning Service

On top of having to go through all of your belongings, you are also expected to deep clean when you move. Deep cleaning can require a lot of time and dedication. Hire a company to help you deep clean your home.

You can have them come in while you are packing, or you can schedule your moving day a few days before you have to be out of your place and have the cleaning company come and deep clean after you have moved all your stuff out of your place.

Stay Somewhere Else That Final Night

The night before your big move, everything should be all packed up in your house. Don't leave any packing for the day of your move. Treat yourself by staying in a hotel the night before your big move. That way, you don't have to pack up your bed, toiletries, and small food items the morning of your big move. You'll already be out of there.

If you want to keep your sanity with your move this summer, go through all the items in your house a month in advance, start packing up spaces you don't use that often weeks ahead of time, hiring a cleaning service to help you clean things up, and stay in a hotel the night before your big move.
