Pros And Cons Of Renting A Studio Apartment

2 Minutes Posted on:

In larger cities, especially, there tend to be a lot of studio apartments for rent. These small apartments are typically one room that serves as both bedroom and living space, plus a kitchenette and bathroom. Should you rent a studio apartment? Well, that depends on your preferences. If you need help deciding, consider these pros and cons.

Pro: Studio apartments cost less to rent.

It almost always costs less to rent a studio than to rent a 1-bedroom apartment, even if the two have similar square footage. So, if you are on a tight budget, living in a studio is a way to keep rent costs down. You could even just live in one for three to six months as a way to save up some cash.

Con: There's not a lot of space.

If you're someone who feels claustrophobic easily, or if you really just like to spread out, then a studio apartment may not be the best choice for you. Not everyone enjoys sleeping a few feet from their stove.

Pro: You don't have to spend a lot of time or money decorating.

Since studio apartments are so tiny, there's not much wall space that you need to cover with paintings or artwork. You really only need a few decorations to spruce the space up. In fact, you can make a studio apartment look very nicely decorated for a lot less than a 2-bedroom would require. If you fancy yourself a minimalist or just don't love decorating in general, then a studio could be a great choice.

Con: There's little to no privacy.

Studio apartments do tend to have separate bathrooms where you can have some privacy. But with no separation between the living room and bedroom, there's really no way to be alone. So, living in a studio apartment with a roommate can be hard. These spaces are really best suited for single people.

Pro: You won't have much to clean.

Smaller spaces mean less cleaning. You can probably clean an entire studio apartment in an hour if you set your mind to it. If you're someone who does not like to clean, a studio is a great choice.

If you decide living in a studio apartment sounds like fun, then start looking for a few in your area. They can be really affordable, low-maintenance places to live if you don't mind smaller spaces and less privacy.
